RE: bicycles

Add a receiver in the front of your tow vehicle and haul your bikes on a rack in that receiver. Works for us. You could also search this Forum for `bike rack' or `bicycle rack' and read on.X2

RE: My turn...dropped 5er onto tailgate...lucky

I'm puzzled. If dropped hitches is as common as it appears here why on earth aren't safety chains required by law? I also don't understand how anyone can high hitch unless they have no idea how to properly hitch a fifth wheel. Do we need a special license to prove one has been trained in hitching? I never used a checklist when driving semi nor when farming hitching dozens of times in a day at times yet no unhitching. Reading this thread is scary. Agree!

RE: when to winterize

Moose10, Agree..........this is my procedure as well.....NEVER have had any problems. One other thing to consider is to drain your water lines. If you look under your trailer you'll find your hot and cold water lines hanging vertical with drain valves.

RE: Leave the heat on low or turn it off???

Unless you have sustained brutal below freezing weather I wouldn't, and never have worried about my pipes freezing. The warmth of the sun during the day is usually sufficient to warm up the rig enough inside. I live in Central Va., and the temps during the night have gotten low but not low enough and sustained enough for me to worry about draining my water system before we go out on our last trip the 1st week of Dec. Just my opinion.

RE: Sam's Club Tires

Buy some Michelin XPS Ribs from Sams Club and then YOU KNOW you have good tires. Buy cheap and get cheap made merchandise. Jerry The "Ribs" don't come in some of the sizes required for the heavier 5ers.

RE: Just Received My New Trailer Registration; WOW!

"Personal Property (Ripoff) Tax" on my 07 Cardinal 5er for this year.....over $900.00 bucks. Dosen't include the annual tax on my other 3 trucks and motorcycle here in Virginia.

RE: Husky hitch

I also have a Husky 16K hitch and always push the handle to close the jaws after unhitching. I'm a little confused about your question since the jaws should be closed when pushing up to the pin to hook up. The force of pushing against the pin will open the jaws and then lock in place.

RE: fiver causing throat & nose to burn

From what I understand, the chemical formaldihide is used in the manufacture of some of the materials in RV's. Sounds like this may be the culprit since the 5er was closed up in the hot sun for so long with no ventilation. Give it a few more days of "airing out" and hopefully you'll be good to go.

RE: Need clothes washer dryer for full time?

Get the washer & drier....you won't be sorry !!. My wife loves the fact that she can do laundry in our 5er and dosen't have to drag our stuff to the laundrymat. I've seen some disgusting things left in public washers. Just my opinion.

RE: Proper purchasing procedure question.(this Friday)

You have to do what your gut tells you to do............. sounds like you don't trust your dealer. If that's the case then tell them that "no offense to them" but that you NEVER sign anything when purchasing something until you're sure that everything is in order, and because of the hydraulic issue you would rather wait until its corrected before having them install the hitch. If you have a chance to talk to some of their customers and find out that they (dealer) is a straight shooter and is reputable (like my dealer) then you may choose to do otherwise.

RE: Electrical question

Are you using an extension cord ? Have you cleaned the plug legs so they are shiny ? Do you have a voltmeter ? Are you using a grounded outlet, that is, not using something like a two prong to thee prong adaptor ? Agree with the first one above: Had the same problem a while back and found that the culprit was a bad 15amp extension cord that I had been using to keep my batteries charged. Every time we would touch metal on the 5er, we would feel a "tingle". Couldn't figure it out until I used a different extension cord.........problem solved.

RE: Help-Electrical Question

One of the cord bodies has a problem. Use a Tester and check for open ground or neutral. Did you try plugging in the cord without the rig connected? Could be moisture in the cord and burnt through the insulation. Try another cord. X2........ I had the same issue a while back.......narrowed it down to the 120v extension cord that I was using which was defective.

RE: Black tank valve replacement

We had issues with our gray and black tank valves being too "flimsy" from the factory (had one of the handles snap off...other one's were on their way) . Here's what my dealer and I decided to do, rather than take the under belly pans off to gain axcess. My dealer simply cut the black and gray water pipes at the "end of the run" and installed QUALITY valves where it is easy for me to axcess them. The old valves were simply left in the open position...........PROBLEM SOLVED and works great now. Just a thought.

RE: low water pressure! guess what it was!!!

Since we NEVER drink the "tap" water because of the taste of it after going thru the intake hose, I don't use a filter. We use bottled water for drinking and don't see the need to filter it for washing dishes, hands, or shower.

RE: Bathroom cabinet tri-light dead

My unit DOES have 12 volt automotive type fuses in the same circuit breaker box next to the 120v breakers. Sounds like you might have a blown 12V fuse.

RE: Who do you like?

Daly R.V. Goldsboro, North Carolina gets my vote. For anyone interested in a dealer who is a "straight shooter" and will go the extra mile for you AFTER the sale go see Alan Daly (owner) of Daly RV. We purchased both of our trailers from him (over 5hrs away from our home) because of the way he treats his customers. The fact that we get to visit with by brother who lives in the area dosen't hurt either.:)
